Healing and Support
There are so many challenges when coming to a new
country, particularly when the culture is so different from one's
own and the language is foreign. We care about each person we see,
what they have witnessed, and what they carry inside. The road to
recovery is unique to each person. Our patients have often been
exposed to extremes of human cruelty. Our services are critical
to the process of healing, which enables our patients to trust in
humanity again.
The Center embodies the mission of the Boston Medical Center (BMC)
to provide "consistently excellent and accessible health services
to all in need of care, regardless of status and ability to pay."
We provide multidisciplinary services that include primary health
care for adults and children, mental health services for adults
and children, referrals for medical specialties and neuropsychiatric
evaluation, dental evaluations, evaluations of persons in detention,
physical therapy, legal services, social services, English classes,
creative therapies, and vocational rehabilitation. We perform medical
and psychological affidavits documenting the effects of torture
and persecution for those seeking asylum. Interpreter services are
available for over 30 languages to aid in the healing and support
of each patient. We also offer donated new clothing, access to the
BMC Food Pantry, and ethnic community support groups. We strive
to be a healing community where survivors can connect, feel safe,
and renew their lives.
The Center is open between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. We
accept people with and without insurance. Please refer patients
and clients to us internally if you work at BMC, or call us at 617-414-4794
if your patients/clients are local or live in the New England region.
